Rebel Without a Cause

Our own Professor Emeritus of Anthropology Dr. James F. Hopgood was recently interviewed by the BBC on the 60th anniversary of actor James Dean's death and the release of the film, "Rebel Without a Cause."  Dr. Hopgood is the editor of the book, The Making of Saints: Contesting Sacred Ground (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0817351795?keywords=making%20saints%20contesting%20sacred%20ground&qid=1444308406&ref_=sr_1_1&sr=8-1 ), which features James Dean, among others.   Celebrities and popular icons like Dean are increasingly ubiquitous figures of a 21st century postmodern world. Some, in death, blur age-old distinctions of sanctification and trespass on sacred ground long held exclusively by religious saints.
